Day 98: Friday, July 22nd: We had planned to spend today in Kingston catching up on provisioning, uploading pictures and logs for the web site and general tourist things. Bill went to an internet café while Ruth did some grocery shopping and general shopping (that girl can be dangerous with a credit card). We relaxed for some of the day for a change.

We had tickets for a dinner cruise through the 1000 Islands region. This area is in the St. Lawrence River east of Kingston and is a wonderful cruising Mecca for boats. It is pristine, beautiful and home of over 1800 small islands - each offering its own charm.

The cruise boat embarked just the other side of the Basin. Walking over, we passed this sculpture/fountain in the park that is supposed to symbolizes the unity of the ten provinces and three territories of Canada:

This is the boat for the dinner cruise. It is a catamaran design with four engines and two jet drives (like a jet ski). It only needs three feet of water to float and cruises at about 12-15 knots. It is the glass-top boat on the left:

The cruise was a lot of fun and passed some very pretty scenery. There was a fellow that provided live entertainment playing songs by many different artists. He would don a sort of costume for each artist's song he was singing. He did Elvis, Elton, Deano, Willie, Beatles, etc. Here he is doing a Jimmy Buffet song, decked out as a parrot head. He would stroll the crowd and sing. Not too many diners paid him much mind:

We were able to beg our way into the pilothouse to visit with the Captain, Executive Officer and Helmsman. They were delightful and friendly fellows. We talked about boats, navigation, propulsion systems, etc. They gave us our own private tour narrative. Sorry, but we didn't take a camera up there.

On the way back to Kingston, three hours after departure, the sunset was picture perfect:
