Day 88: Tuesday, July 12th: This morning we walked to a nearby internet café and sent ten days' worth of logs and pictures for this web site. We had not had internet access since we left the US on June 30th. Sadly, we may not have a chance to send more logs for a few days.

While Bill was posting logs on the 'net, Ruth walked the couple of blocks to ByWard Market. This is a giant open-air farmers' market that sells all sorts of flowers and produce. There are dozens of vendors; the flowers are beautiful:

The produce stands go on for blocks and the customers are as diverse as the produce!

Ruth then went sightseeing and passed "The Tin Building" with this "thing" stuck on the side. Apparently, it IS made of tin; incredible:

The objective of Ruth's trek was the Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica, completed in 1841. This is the oldest Catholic Church in Ottawa (we think):

Inside, the Cathedral was beautiful. Looking toward the front of the church you see this:

The Cathedral is reminiscent of some of the European churches.

Directly across the street from the Cathedral is the National Gallery of Canada. We never had a chance to go inside:

On the way back to the boat, Ruth got a good picture of the Fairmont Chateau Laurier. This is a very old building and perfectly gorgeous inside:

We needed to find some plumbing parts for the pump out and buy a washdown hose, a charger for camera batteries and some batteries. So, we hopped a bus and rode about five miles to a Home Depot store. That was an interesting people-watching adventure. We got the parts and bussed back to the boat.

It was a long day!
