Day 81: Tuesday, July 5th: The weather was supposed to be stormy today so, in our developing tradition, we chose to stay in Ste. Anne de Bellevue. By the way, the abbreviation "Ste." is for "Sainte" in French, and "St." is for "Saint" in English. We see it both ways all over Canada, because Canada is officially bi-lingual. We find most Quebecans (Quebec-ers?) speak French and most also speak English if pressed. Some of the rural Quebecois (the correct word for people from Quebec) don't seem to know a word of English.
Anyway, this morning Integrity seemed a little lonesome at her rearmost berth. The other boats left early to get home and back to work. Yesterday, Monday, was a quasi-holiday because Canada Day was Friday, and many employers give the option to take Friday or Monday off:
Back at the dock we met Dennis and Esther Brucknel aboard "Sadie-B", a 27-foot Albin cruiser. They had pulled into the wharf during the day. Actually Bill had met Dennis last fall at a "Trawlerfest" in Solomons, MD. Dennis and Esther were on the staff of this extensive boat show and seminar set for trawlers. They cruise extensively and completed the Great Loop a couple of years ago. They live in Florida and keep their boat in Lake Champlain (Vermont). This trip, they were headed to Ottawa for a week of fun. Ruth got this picture of them next to Sadie-B for our album:
The sky finally opened up late this afternoon and it rained hard for several hours. We ate supper aboard not wanting to go out in the storm. End of a "work" day.
