Day 67: Another day at Waterford, NY
Day 67: Monday, June 13th:Today is the sad day we must bid farewell to the group of friends on Candy Dish, Stephie's Choice and Cori. They planned to begin their trip west through the Erie Canal while we were going north through the Champlain Canal.
Candy Dish moved away from the dock and into the first lock a short way off:
Stephie's Choice was ahead of her. We walked up to the top of the lock to watch. Step one is to secure the boat to the lock wall, then the gates close and the lock chamber is filled with water from the high (uphill) end:
And Karen and Bill next. Smooth sailing!
We were sad as we waved goodbye. Cori was scheduled to leave later in the morning.
Back at the dock, this cute canal boat was moored. Folks that just want to do the canal trip charter these boats:
Also just arrived was this steamboat, a replica of the original:
The wood-looking thing is the boat's boiler and the green machinery behind it is the one-cylinder steam engine. Very charming!
