Day 62: Wednesday, June 8th:We had a short day planned for today so we got underway at 9:00 am (pure luxury!) with the regular crowd: Candy Dish, Stephie's Choice, Cori and Integrity. Our new French friends had left about an hour earlier and several sailboats had left.

It was a perfect day! Just about a "10" until later when it got hot. We passed several interesting places; one was this nuclear power plant, Indian Point:

There is a fair amount of barge traffic on the Hudson and the barges are giants. Seems like Candy Dish was always dodging big boats!

This view was rather unique. There are four bridges here: the Bear Mountain Bridge, a railroad bridge, a secondary road bridge and an interstate highway bridge:

A little farther upstream one comes to West Point, home of the United States Military Academy. Security here is so tight they have closed the moorings and docks to the general public. One cannot visit by water anymore. The sailboat is "The Clearwater", the one Pete Seeger sponsored as part of the Hudson River cleanup campaign. Very graceful!

West Point's architecture is quite imposing. Formidable, you might say!

The water was smooth, the sky was mostly blue and the Catskill foothills were beautiful! These are ingredients of a "10" day:

Back in Haverstraw Bay, we met this French couple, Yvon and Joelle, on their boat "La Flaneuse". They have crossed the Atlantic five times - once in La Flaneuse - and are doing the Great Loop for the second time. The boat is amazing in its configuration and has a cruise range of 5,000 miles without sails. We caught up with them and snapped this picture on the way by:

Continuing our chronicle of bridges, here is the Mid-Hudson Suspension Bridge and a railroad bridge beyond. These are in Poughkeepsie, NY:

The structure of the badly rusting railroad bridge was particularly interesting to us:

The Hudson River has its own series of unique lighthouses. Much more "house" than light. This one is called "Middle Hudson River":

This one is at the mouth of Rondout Creek at Kingston, NY:

The town of Kingston lines Rondout Creek for about a mile. This is a charming and friendly place with inexpensive public docks. The four of us moored here. Kingston likes to paint their various tanks. This greets the visiting boater:

A little further upstream is this - uh - unique painting:

This old building was worth seeing and worth a picture:

This is the little city dock facility. It is right on the main street:

And this was the welcoming committee. Seems rare to have this many ducklings in one family:

We all decided to go to dinner at an Italian restaurant nearby. You have been hearing us talk about our travel companions; here they are. Left to right are Bill and Ruth from Integrity, Bill and Karen from Candy Dish, Mike and Stephie from Stephie's Choice, and Rick (wife Connie had not yet caught up with the group). Connie and Rick are on Cori:

Dinner was delightful (though pricey) and the company was great.
