Day 56: Thursday, June 2nd: Up at 5:30 am (yes the world is there at this ungodly hour) and underway to try to get out ahead of the promised worsening wind and weather. Cold. Dark-ish. Ruth decided to make a study of the bridges crossing the C&D Canal. The first one was right outside the marina harbor and this was the only picture we got. Look up:
The first checkpoint was "the Power Plant," which is a nuclear power plant a little way down the upper bay. It makes for a good checkpoint to see what is "out there".
About 1/3 of the way down the Bay is "Ship John Shoal". This impressive light contraption marks it:
We moored at Utsch's Marina in Cape May, NJ, and to our surprise were moored with about six other "Loopers," several of whom had followed us down the Delaware Bay. Karen and Bill Hasselbach, aboard Candy Dish, organized a deck party on their boat and we all had a blast. The promised rain and wind held off, thank Goodness!
We'll try to get more picture of this area tomorrow.
And now to bed.. long day..
