Day 55: Wednesday, June 1st: We were very rudely awakened in the anchorage this morning by a HUGE wake from a passing boat. Integrity must have rocked 30+ degrees in both directions 6-8 times. Everything got dumped on the deck, cabinets came open and contents spilled. Fortunately, nothing major broke.

Our plan for the day was to cruise up the Sassafras River the six miles or so to Georgetown, MD and pick up our friend Malcolm Ringel. Malcolm was to spend the day with us aboard Integrity as we cruised up through the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal (the "C&D Canal"). A friend of Malcolm's would pick him up at the Summit North Marina, where we would moor for the night.

As we came into the marina-rich area of Georgetown, this character boat caught our eye:

We boarded Malcolm right as scheduled and proceeded up to the northern reaches of the Chesapeake. The day was beautiful, although not quite as nice as the day before. We were in the shipping lanes now, and we met this big automobile carrier from Kobe, Japan:

We cruised easily up through the C&D, took a quick loop through the anchorage at Chesapeake City and moved on. We told Malcolm to make himself at home and relax. Bill checked on him in the main saloon shortly after lunch and said, "Smile!" Here is what resulted:

We pulled into the Summit North Marina for the night. It is located about half way along the C&D Canal, and is in Delaware (our first and only night in this venerable state). It is a nice marina with about a hundred boats, many of which were passing through like us. Integrity is the sixth boat out on the right of this pier:

They have a good restaurant on premises. It is handicap friendly, but at the top of this complex set of ramps:

The walk up was made pleasant by a plethora of honeysuckle vines growing along the bank. We had a delightful dinner in good company with Malcolm and his "ride," Bob (or Rob) Porter. Bob and his wife Natalie run the Broad Creek Bed & Breakfast in St. Michaels, MD.

And so to bed. We planned an early rise to make the run across Delaware Bay tomorrow. The weather was predicted to be "iffy." We would see..
