Day 54: Tuesday, May 31st: Suddenly Baltimore was quiet! Nearly everyone left the marina and waterfront and went back to work this day after Memorial Day. The fellow moored at the end of our pier (in a 65 foot Sea Ray) was a plumber and had made these fancy devices to hold his electrical wires and hoses. Clever - and the plumbing business must be good!

We were almost alone as we cruised out of the inner harbor and past Fort McHenry. This picture was taken at the approximate position Francis Scott Key penned the words to "The Star Spangled Banner". Yes, he was held prisoner on a scow just a couple hundred yards off the shore:

This day was the best day we have had on our trip so far. The sky was bright blue without a cloud, the wind was light, the Chesapeake Bay was flat calm, there were almost no wakes, no crab pots and the temperature climbed into the mid-seventies. PERFECT! We cruised leisurely northeast from Baltimore and into the Sassafras River./s Yes, back on Maryland's Eastern Shore. We pulled into a delightful anchorage behind Ordinary Point. We had the whole place to ourselves:

Even the sunset was near perfect. Great ending to a totally great day!
