Day 45: Sunday, May 22nd: We had a few rain showers during the night last night, but this morning it cleared out. We leisurely cruised back out the San Domingo, etc., and out toward open water.
We had seen what looked like a bunch of floats marking a swimming area yesterday, but realized later that we were in the breeding grounds for Mute Swans. The "floats" were swans! Coming back down the creek today, we got closer to the flock to get some pictures. This is what they looked like as we left the channel to get closer:
We arrived at Knapp's Narrows, at Tilghman Island, still officially on the Eastern Shore, shortly after 1:00pm. We tied up at Knapps Narrows Marina and Inn.. Then we bummed a ride to an excellent popular nearby restaurant, Harrison's Country Inn Restaurant.
Friend Malcolm Ringel showed up right on time with his gift of a microwave oven. We had a delightful visit, chatting about what has gone on since we saw one another some thirty years ago. Ruth and I are kicking ourselves because we took no pictures of this old friend and his vintage truck. We hope to see him again in a week or so. Maybe then.
Knapp's Narrows is a shortcut from Chesapeake Bay to Choptank River that is a short little cut across an isthmus of land. The drawbridge is open more than closed. Look closely and you can see the open water in the distance under the bridge:
