Day 44: Saturday, May 21st: Today dawned clear and crisp. Nothing like yesterday! We woke up late, dried out slowly and had homemade pancakes for breakfast. The fishermen had long ago launched their boats and were out enjoying the day. We laughed at how we had "laced" the boat to the wharf in the high winds yesterday:

We discovered the microwave oven had died. It wouldn't even run the clock on the front. We had been in touch by phone with an old friend, Malcolm Ringel, so we called for local knowledge.

"Where is a WalMart?" we asked.

"Not one close," he replied.

We were crestfallen. However, Malcolm volunteered to give us one he had but wasn't using. Great friend, that Malcolm! We arranged to meet him at a convenient spot in a couple of days.

Then we motored leisurely down La Trappe Creek and Choptank River, then up Broad Creek into Edge Creek and then San Domingo Creek. This was the "back way" to St. Michaels, MD. We anchored in a very shallow spot and took the dinghy in to a public park and pier. Ruth was fascinated by a cammo boat tied nearby:

St. Michaels is a quaint "Eastern Shore" town with some charming little (expensive) homes. The roses in town were beautiful:

This porch was particularly inviting:

We wandered down to the harbor and visited the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. Sadly, they had closed, but we could wander the grounds. They have one of the relocated screwpile lighthouses - not as impressive as the one in Solomons, but nonetheless very quaint. Note the little "house" again:

We spotted a springtime family of ducks in the grass nearby:

The daddy duck got very protective as we got closer:

And the mommy duck got, well, motherly:

We then went to the grocery store and back to the boat. This is what Integrity looked like sitting calmly at anchor as we arrived:

We slept like logs through a quiet, calm night..
