Day 42: Thursday, May 19th: NOAA Weather was predicting very unsettled weather for the next several days so we were in a quandary what to do - stay a couple more days in Solomons or move to an anchorage a little further along our route. We decided to do the latter and got underway. Today was supposed to be cloudy and cool with a chance of showers, but not much wind or seas. We had everything but the showers as we traveled to the "Eastern Shore" of Maryland. Bill always thought that expression meant the eastern coast of the state, but, no, it means the eastern shore of the Chesapeake Bay. It is a favorite vacation and tourist area.
On the way, we passed a strange sort of dock with a huge tanker ship pulling away. We decided the dock must be a safe place to pump the ships load of oil (or whatever). There were several tugboats assisting the ship, and a pilot boat was in the area. Sorry for the poor picture quality (too far away), but note the relative size of the 100-foot tugs compared to the tanker. The tanker is about two miles away:
