Day 41: Wednesday, May 18th: After doing a few chores we decided to get the bikes down and "do the town." Sorry, but for some reason we didn't think to take any pictures of us on the bikes. It was interesting to do everything by bike. We probably only rode a total of ten miles.

Just up the road from the marina was Annmarie Garden, a thirty acre public sculpture park. Some of the sculpture was interesting:

We then went to lunch at one of the local favorites, Stoney's Kingfisher Inn. Ruth ordered the crab cake they are famous for and was disappointed. I had a shrimp salad that was OK, but not worth a ten mile bike trip. However, we ate overlooking the harbor:

While we were waiting for our lunch to be served, one of the hungrier natives showed up

She (?) couldn't figure out why Bill wouldn't feed her:

We noticed that the town of Solomons had their fire hydrants painted. Not red like most towns, but..:

Next stop was the Calvert Marine Museum, an excellent museum and a favorite of the Chesapeake Bay residents and visitors alike. A highlight was a tour through the Drum Point Lighthouse, which has been moved to the museum property from its former point of vigil about five miles away. Note the little house all the lighthouses had. This is a "screwpile" lighthouse. The solid wrought iron support legs have giant augers for feet and were screwed ten feet into the Chesapeake mud to make them sturdy:

After getting Bill a haircut, and stopping at the grocery and marine supply stores we went back to the boat. We were greeted by a sailboat race that finished right in the harbor. The colorful spinnakers were really pretty as they sailed into the harbor:

Another nice dinner aboard by Chef Ruth and snooze time.
