Day 335 - St. Augustine to Jacksonville Beach, FL
Day 335 - Monday, March 27th: We left our slip at the St. Augustine City Marina early this morning, got the holding tank pumped out and ran under the Bridge of Lions before 9:00am
A recent Coast Guard Notice to Mariners said the bridge would be blocked due to construction all day starting at 9:00am, so we hurried past. Get this: They are building a temporary bridge to use while they refurbish the historic Bridge of Lions. Then they plan to tear the new bridge down. Great way to spend the taxpayers' money! Here is the new bridge going up:
We cruised with Summertime up to Palm Cove Marina in Jacksonville Beach. It was VERY shallow; you can see the mud flats:
Our fathometer was reading "0.0 feet" most of the way in, and Integrity was slow to respond as she dragged through soft muck. Thank goodness it was low tide.
The marina had a huge dry storage facility that would hold 500 boats. They moved the boats around with these gigantic forklifts:
Ruth did some laundry while Bill cleaned the hull and spruced up the boat a bit. We had happy hour aboard Summertime and made plans for our cruise up the St. Johns River.
It had been a fairly short, easy day.
