Day 323 - Jupiter to Port St. Lucie, FL
Day 323 - Wednesday, March 15th: Another of Ruth's friends took her to buy groceries this morning while Bill pumped out the holding tank and filled the water tank.
We got underway about 10:00am and headed out of the rather large marina. We got some pictures this morning as we left. Here is the marina office building and fuel dock facility. That's "Alvin" waving goodbye. He is from Jamaica, "Mon."
Here we are looking back in through the docks:
The sign at the mouth of the inlet…
This is our parting view of this rather pricey place:
We soon got a good view of the Jupiter lighthouse:
The wind was pretty strong today and we could see the breakers breaking on the Jupiter Inlet shoals; the current was horrific. We turned around in a hurry before the shoal:
As we cruised north of Jupiter, the homes were a little more modest and the lots were larger. This seemed like a more laid back area:
When we arrived at St. Lucie Inlet, these tugs were moving a huge section of dredge pipe. The one in front pulls and the one in back marks the end of the pipe. It can ruin your whole day if you try to go between them. We turned left here and headed up the St. Lucie River:
The Roosevelt Bridge on the St. Lucie River only opens if the automatic railroad bridge is open (they are only a hundred yards apart). As we arrived, a train was coming and the bridge was closing. So we waited. Finally, the train passed and the bridges opened:
We went about eight miles up into the North Fork of the river and tied to a mooring ball at the Tarpon Bay Yacht Club and Condominium complex. The mooring ball belonged to a friend of the dock master and we had permission to use it. No charge, of course, which was better than last night by a whole lot.
We were here because we had bumped into four different couples in the Keys, all of whom lived here. They talked so enthusiastically about the condos and the docks that we decided to visit and look at a few of the condos that were for sale.
There are six buildings on 22 acres of land, so there is lots of green space. Two large docks provide the marina facility. Here is the south dock on the right:
And the north dock on the left:
It was a quiet and peaceful spot. The sunset was nice as well…
Tomorrow we will look at condos.
