Day 262: Friday, January 13th: We were expecting fog again this morning but were amazed to wake up and it was clear! We pulled anchor (along with the slimy grass that seems to abound in this area). Thank goodness for our seawater washdown pump!

We headed south past Useppa Island, Cabbage Key, Cayo Costa, the Captiva islands, Pine Island and other popular wintering areas. The most remarkable thing we saw was this tugboat pushing its barge BACKWARDS!

We were again fascinated by these power lines suspended for miles between Sanibel Island and the mainland in Pine Island Sound. It seems like it would be much cheaper to lay a cable along the sea floor. Apparently, the risk of hurricanes shifting the sand is too great:

We turned into the Caloosahatche River and ran past Cape Coral to Centennial Harbor Marina in downtown Ft. Myers. This is a very nice marina with a very professional staff. Several other Loopers were docked here:

By pure chance Integrity was one of three Monk 36s moored next to each other. A rare sight indeed!

Our Canadian friends aboard Joken, Ken and Joyce, were staying at a marina across the river from us for an extended time and they had their truck (Ford F-150 extended cab) here. Ken came over and gave us a quick tour of the area. Moored in the marina next to us was this 1936 classic old girl, Black Tie. She has been converted to a tour boat:

We sat aboard Integrity enjoying a cool one with Ken for a while and caught up with happenings since we last saw them.

It was good to be in a marina after nearly a week. A very strong cold front was roaring down the Florida peninsula and would arrive here about midnight. It was packing gale force winds - not good conditions for anchoring out!
