Day 253: Wednesday, January 4th: Today our plan was to get underway and go a scant thirteen miles to visit friends in Cortez, FL. We would tie up at their slip behind their condominium and visit for a day or so.

We got underway about 10:30am and cruised slowly down the Manatee River into Tampa Bay and turned south down the Gulf Intercoastal Waterway. It was a beautiful day.

We arrived at the "marina," the condo's private docks about noon. Our friends, Casey and Bob (boat name: CaySea) were there to greet us. We had met them in Deltaville, VA last spring. They were doing the loop in seven months and the last time we had seen them was at Drummond Island near the Macinac Straits in Michigan last August. This is their condo building (second floor is their "unit"):

We spent a little time catching up with our respective happenings and then Casey, Ruth and Bill went for a walk along the beach; it was an ideal day. On the beach was a former restaurant and beach bar that now was used as a rental facility for parties. We had Casey snap our posed photo at this unusual place:

Casey and Bob had some other Loopers driving up from Ft. Myers, FL to stay with them for the night. They were Canadians Lee and Jan from Teamwork whom we had never met. We all had supper at the condo. The highlight was stone crab and crab cakes and it was excellent and very elegant. Of course we forgot to get any pictures of the festivities.
