Day 238: Tuesday, December 20th: Lisa and Ann said goodbye to return to Atlanta this morning and we set about making preparations to cross the Gulf of Mexico. We weren't doing the crossing for a couple of days but now was the time to get ready.
Ruth washed the boat off thoroughly while Bill did maintenance items - changed the engine oil and filter, cleaned the seawater strainers, checked the engine zincs, filled all the batteries with distilled water, etc. He declared all systems "GO."
The weather was beginning to indicate that the day after tomorrow may present a rare winter window to cross the Gulf. We discussed "buddy boating" with Lola Marie, another Looper in the marina, and decided to head for Apalachicola tomorrow early to be ready for the crossing.
We had supper of leftovers aboard and were in bed early.
