Day 219: Thursday, December 1st: We awoke this morning to another beautiful sky and water. The view across the Dog River from our moorage showed Dog River Marina, still under reconstruction from the hurricanes of the last couple of years. They had several transient boats at the docks:

Looking up the river, there was still a slight mist on the water. The peacefulness is impossible to describe:

We had met the folks on Grand Start right behind us - Rex and Jan. They had given us a nice tour of their Albin 43 Sundeck. We reciprocated this morning. Here they are just before getting underway:

While we had the camera out we took a few pictures around the marina. Here is Integrity, tied to the dock at low tide:

Here is a sobering sight. Look mid-way down the picture on the right to see where hurricane Georges left its mark in 1998, and then look at the top right edge of the door frame for a small marker where Katrina's water surge went on August 30th this year. The folks around here are true troopers!

Today is the first of December, and the marina is sponsoring a Christmas decoration contest. This boat is in the heat of the competition. They won last year and intend to win this year. That's Barbara, part of the marina staff, helping with the decorations. It looks a mess in the daytime, but can you imagine the lights at night?

We sadly left the hospitality of Grand Mariner Marina and headed east across Mobile bay in light beam seas (beam seas make Integrity roll a lot). We moored at Eastern Shore Marine, appropriately named. One of the first sights we saw was of this victim of an earlier hurricane:

We went into the marina office to register and were greeted by a shipment from a major marine distributor with an interesting name. No connection:

We were in the marina with old frinds from Roy-El', Sonsie, Windless, Little-T, Kismet and others we had met earlier on the Loop. It was great fun to see them again. We went to dinner at a local favorite restaurant in Daphne, AL. There were 14 of us around the table. It was excellent food, service and friendship. We were tired and happy puppies when we got back to the boat.
