Day 206: Friday, November 18th: Fuel at Aberdeen Marina where we were was $2.19 per gallon - the cheapest we have seen since we left Chesapeake Bay. So we topped off our tanks. It was COLD this morning (upper 20s).

As we were preparing to get underway after fueling we heard the lockmaster at the Aberdeen Lock, a short 1.5 miles away, talking to two boats preparing to lock through. We hustled out of the marina to try to make the trip with them. The channel leaving the marina was shallow and narrow but not as intimidating as it was coming in yesterday:

By the way, so much of the Tenn-Tom in this area appears desolate and deserted, yet beautiful. The picture above is typical of the views.

We made it into the lock and waved at the unseen lockmaster behind the black glass cage:

We were last to leave the lock, behind two other boats. This dam was longer than most. The area we are in now is mostly low and flat so the water tends to meander. It's probably hard to engineer a dam in this flat zone:

We cruised slowly under a beautiful, cloudless blue sky to Columbus Marina on the outskirts of Columbus, MS -- a very popular marina. We saw several boats we had met along the Loop, including Windless, Roy El, Sonsie, Act II and Black Dog among others. Sadly, many of the crews had left their boats for an extended visit back home for Thanksgiving week. We were moored behind a 48 foot Nordhavn and in front of our friends on Act II, Ted and Helen Brown:

After we checked in with the marina Ted lent us his car and we made a quick trip to Wal-Mart and Kroger for some provisions.

We had supper aboard and bedded down early.

We traversed one lock today for a total of 149 to date.
