Day 199: Friday, November 11th: We were up and underway about 8:30 this morning with Medora in company and cruised the short distance to Joe Wheeler Lock and Dam. Again, we were lucky. A commercial tow had just locked up and the lock chamber was waiting for us.
We next cruised through the shortest lake on the Tennessee, Wilson Lake. It is about 20 miles long. Again, luck was with us as we arrived at the lower lock at Wilson dam just as it was opening the gates for another pleasure boat Second Wind.
We moored two miles downstream from the lock, still with Medora, at Mystic Harbor Marina in Florence, AL, about 1:00pm. We had stayed here on our way upstream as well.
Ruth and the crew from Medora borrowed the marina's courtesy van and headed to do some shopping. Bill went to work on the VHF radio, which has had a problem since we bought the boat.
Later in the afternoon we heard what sounded like an old-time calliope. When we looked out on the river, this is the scene we saw:
The afternoon turned to evening and gave us another fantastic sunset:
We turned in at a "reasonable" hour, although not early.
Two more locks today for a total of 142.
