Day 194: Sunday, November 6th: Today we said goodbye to the marina owners, Terry and Randy (although Terry was off today recovering from a bout with a kidney stone). We finally got underway to continue the Loop.
Our first order of business was to take advantage of a very good price for diesel fuel at Sale Creek Marina a few miles upstream. They had fuel for $2.75 per gallon. That's the best price we have seen since last August in Lake Michigan (before the hurricanes decimated the Gulf oil supplies).
We learned that this weekend was traditionally the favorite of local boaters to take their "Leaf Cruise." Many of the local boaters go from Lake Chickamauga, where we were, through the Chickamauga Lock, past Chattanooga and down to Hale's Bar Marina to view the fall colors. It is a trip of about 50 miles. Some boats stay overnight and return on Sunday.
We didn't want to fight the crowds on the Leaf Cruise, so we decided to stay in Lake Chickamauga at anchor tonight. That made for a slow and easy day of cruising. It was windy today, so there were many sailboats out:
It was a quiet anchorage. Several Great Blue Herons were stoically fishing along the banks. It had been a lazy but nice day.
