Day 160: Sunday, September 25th: Well, if we had to pick a place to hunker down and ride out a storm, this would not be it. Once you browse the fifty or so items in the Mermaid Marina store and eat a meal in the Mermaid Marina Restaurant, there are no activities or attractions. Not even cell phone signal.
However, hunker down we did. Remnants of hurricane Rita were rolling across the area bringing heavy rain and thunderstorms, high winds, flood warnings, tornados and generally lousy conditions. We socialized with the crews of the other boats, caught up on reading, writing logs, eating and chilling out. Boring is a good one-word description of the day. The women borrowed a car from the marina and drove into the closest town with a grocery store (not Decaturville, but Perryville a little farther away). Nobody really needed groceries, but the trip was a short relief from the cabin fever.
Before the wet stuff rolled in we did take a few pictures. First, to carry on with the many mermaids adorning the premises, we bring you this streetlight:
We went to bed hoping for less wind for tomorrow; the rain we could take.
