Day 140: Monday, September 5th: We got underway at daybreak (7:00am) and joined a half-dozen other boats headed out of the harbor.

It was a perfect morning with clear skies and a gentle wind out of the southeast. The waves were less than one foot so far.

About 30 miles down the coast is the little vacation town of Lakeside, MI. Ruth's mother's family has a lovely cottage here where Ruth often visited as she was growing up. We were able to identify the beach where she played. Although it is lacking detail, here's the beach. This is as close as we felt safe to bring Integrity.

We learned that it is easy to spot Michigan City from the lake. You simply look for this coal-fired steam generating plant and cooling tower. They sit right beside the harbor entrance:

Here's a closer view of the harbor lighthouse - along with the ubiquitous fishermen. Note the clear sky and flat seas; it was a nice day!

We pulled into the Washington Park Municipal Marina:

This is a large, modern marina. We discovered this boat moored at the next pier; we liked the name:

The marina was complete with fancy streetlights and even a clock tower. Ruth used the laundry to wash some throw rugs. That girl works hard!

It was a big marina with many big boats. We discovered that our friends from Starsong, whom we met first in Beaufort, SC, were here also. We spent Happy Hour with them catching up on past events and discussing the upcoming trip down the Chicago River.

Supper aboard again and to bed.
