Day 136: Monday, August 29th: The weatherman was predicting lower seas during the day today so we decided to get going. We bought a little diesel fuel for insurance, pumped out the holding tank and left Manistee.

On the way out of the harbor the fishermen were still enjoying the salmon and steelhead fishing and the seas outside seemed nearly calm:

Each of these harbors along the eastern shore of Lake Michigan have lighthouses marking the breakwaters of the harbor inlet and this one is one of the bigger ones. If you don't think the waves get huge on this lake, check out the elevated walkway that allows access to the lighthouse from shore during really rough weather:

There are also lighthouses on various points of land along the shore. This one is Little Sable Point Lighthouse, if memory serves. Note the seas are only about a foot high:

We were fascinated by the color of the water. It rivaled the prettiest we have seen even in the Caribbean:

The lake became almost flat calm and we pressed on. After our longest day, 75 statute miles, we turned in at the lighthouse marking White Lake:

Just inside the jetty was this very pretty home/lighthouse. We guessed it was still operating and that someone lived here:

It was late as we pulled into the White Lake Municipal Marina. There were only two boats in the transient slips and the marina had closed at 5:00pm. We arrived about 5:30 and took a convenient empty slip as the harbormaster had told us to do when we called an hour earlier. This is what the marina area looked like. It was a nice marina, but pretty empty:

We were quite tired but took time to visit the boat next-door to watch the news about hurricane Katrina. Sad news indeed.

We turned in after a quick supper. It was a good day today!
