Day 122: Thursday, August 25th: We got underway at 8:00am after having friend Gene from We Be Blest help Bill mark up some charts for good anchorages down on the Tenn-Tom Waterway.

There was more wind this morning than yesterday and we cruised west out of the bay, past Charlevoix. The limestone (?) plant was the most notable landmark:

One of the most impressive sights along the coast of eastern Lake Michigan is the huge sand cliffs and dunes. These things are hundreds of feet high; here's one:

The shoreline varies from dunes and cliffs to tree-covered knolls. The water in this area normally runs hundreds of feet deep right up to the shore. Otto the autopilot is Bill's best buddy in these waters. We often run thirty miles on one course and Otto is good at course-keeping. Here's a big knoll:

We arrived at Leland, MI in mid-afternoon. This is one of the state-sponsored marinas:

This is a charming town and not very big. They have an internet café so Bill took advantage of it and sent a bunch of email and logs. Ruth walked the beach which is one of her favorite things. Typical patrons were on the beach:

On her way back through town she walked through "Fishtown", the old part of this village that has been kept authentic. It is very, uh, authentic:

There is a dam that keeps the local lake in check. The local pubs and restaurants take advantage of the charm with patio dining:

We had dinner at the Bluebird Restaurant on the lakeshore which has been operated by the same family since 1927; it was delicious!
