Day 124: The Pool to Little Current, Ontario
Day 124: Wednesday, August 17th: We got this picture in the anchorage last night about dark; bad picture, but pretty moon:
This morning we hauled anchor and were greeted with the nemesis of "The Pool"; the seaweed is bad here. Fortunately we got it off the anchor easily enough and cruised back down Baie Fine. Once clear of the bay we passed this catamaran just as she hoisted her Genoa. It was a very pretty sight:
We rounded the point with a lighthouse leading to Little Current:
We are now entering the North Channel at the north end of Lake Huron and leaving Georgian Bay. Just east of the first town, Little Current, is a big swing bridge that opens only on the hour. We timed our arrival perfectly; it's opening right on schedule!
It took six minutes to open enough for anyone to pass through. However, we were warned not to go through until it was fully open. Sigh!
Once in Little Current we tied to the City Docks. They have an 1800-foot seawall that serves about 35-40 transient boats; we tied to the high wall:
We wandered into the little town and the first thing we spotted was the town's tribute to the Korean War Veterans cut from local granite:
The street-front shops were barking for late-season business. They were really charming:
