Day 122: Killarney to Mary Ann Cove in Baie Fine
Day 122: Monday, August 15th: Yesterday we cleaned the new brown moustache off Integrity's hull; she looked good this morning!
We were moored at the Sportsman's Inn Marina; they were expecting a rendezvous of Hatteras Yachts today - twenty-two of them:
This morning Ruth and the crew from Pollyanna decided to take a long loop trail around George Island (just across the channel from where we were moored). This is Tinkerbell, the little water taxi that took them across the channel:
These are strange little pedal boats they rent at the taxi dock. You sit on them, carefully, and pedal the little propeller. They looked like fun:
The hike loop was 7.5 kilometers, about 4.6 miles, of tough terrain. This sign tells about it:
And this is what part of it looked like:
Ruth wanted to pose in this unusual tree:
At the highest point, you got a long view of Georgian Bay:
Then down to the water's edge. These rocks were honed by a glacier during the Ice Age and are part of a moraine left by the receding ice:
This is an inukchuk. It is one of many designs of stacked rocks seen all over the area and as souvenir earrings in gift shops. This one was about two feet tall:
The hike took them three hours. Bill picked up some bakery items we had ordered and did miscellaneous chores in the meantime.
We went for another great fish and chips lunch and finally got underway. We enjoyed more pretty weather, quartz-filled granite hills and pretty blue water:
We turned into Baie Fine (pronounced "Bay Fin"). This bay becomes very narrow and looks much like a fjord:
