Day 103: Wednesday, July 27th: Our mission today was to go through seven locks and stop in Campbellford; we made it with ease. Campbellford has many attractions including a very good bakery, the World's Finest Chocolate Factory and Outlet Store, a cheese factory and the cheapest diesel fuel in Ontario (or at least on the Trent-Severn Waterway).
In our logs yesterday we mentioned the original lockmaster's houses. Many of them were bulldozed down and replaced with a modern office like this one. Nice, but they have no charm. That's the lockmaster waving; he did have charm:
Canada no longer uses paper currency for their $1 or $2 money; they use coins. The $1 coin has a Loon on it and has picked up the nickname "Loony". In 1996 they started minting the $2 coin and, naturally, it got the nickname "Toony". A resident of this area designed the "tail" of the coin:
