Day 101: Belleville to Trenton, Ontario
Day 101: Friday, July 22nd: Well, we had no rain all night, so it was a good sleep. Today was a short hop for us, only about 18 miles. We wanted to stop in Trenton to re-provision, do laundry and get Ruth a haircut. We pulled into the harbor at Trenton and was greeted by this huge sign:
Just left of the bridge was the Frazier Park Marina, a delightful spot to stop. Reasonably priced, they offer all the amenities and a friendly proprietress named Sandy. She is a pistol; sorry no picture of her. But this is the marina, a cheerful place:
The marina was the seawall for a pretty city park that was full of flowers and benches. Look closely toward the red brick building and see Integrity's mast and top past the little boat. Note the pretty flowers:
Here is another view of the park and a neat little gazebo:
The little park is actually a memorial park. This is the entrance, commemorating the soldiers from the area who served from the War of 1812 through World War I. Actually, this area wasn't settled until after the War of 1812, but what the heck:
We needed to do errands so the following pictures were taken while Ruth biked between the grocery store, the laundramat and the boat. Meanwhile, Bill went to an internet café to send some of these logs and check email. He also went to the L.C.B.O. (Liquor Control Board of Ontario), the liquor store.
They have a big, relatively new, Catholic Church in town. Very pretty:
And this is the old Anglican Church. It is also very pretty and less, um, pretentious:
Another interesting building in town is this old-looking clock tower which can be seen for miles around. It sits among several very modern-looking buildings; a striking juxtaposition:
