It is now April 15, 2005 and we are still in Beaufort, SC.  We have been super busy attending various "Looper" seminars, presentations, wine & cheese receptions and dinners.  We have visited the boats of many "Loopers" and generally had a great time.  Weather has been mixed - yesterday was drizzly and cloudy/cold, and today was beautiful but cold (40 for a low) and VERY windy (gale warning for the Georgia coast through tomorrow).

This is not to say we haven't taken time to see Historic Beaufort.

Beaufort is very proud of its heritage and charm.

One good way to see and learn about the town is to take a horse carriage tour of the historic district.

Some of the homes date back to before the civil war.  They are charming.  The movie "The Big Chill" was filmed in this area of Beaufort.

But it hasn't been all sightseeing and fun.  The anchor windlass that broke on our first night out had to be dissected and the villain was found:

This part was supposed to be one piece.  Several others were also damaged.  We air-shipped replacements and Bill rebuilt the windlass.  We'll see:

Another "Looper" had rented a car and drove Bill to Lowe's to buy some plywood to build a floor in the forward V-bunk stateroom storage area.  This made the space much more usable - and we need space!

Beaufort has three major industries.ls The principal one is making United States Marines.  Today, Friday, was special.  We went down to Parris Island, SC, for the graduation ceremonies of some eight new platoons of Marines. This ceremony is very impressive.  These young men and women are truly proud, and their demeanor, to say the least, is "crisp":

The weather is supposed to be more benign tomorrow, so we plan to start north toward Charleston, SC.  We'll keep you posted.
