At 3:00 p.m. EDT on April 8, 2005, we cast off and head north!
Bill takes the first turn at the helm (note Ruth's herb/flower box):
.. and Ruth tries to capture the elusive dolphins who came out to bid us "Bon Voyage!" This is supposed to be a very good omen.
A short distance up the ICW (that's "Inter-Coastal Waterway" for those non-boating types out there) we passed Bonaventure Cemetery:
It really feels good to finally be starting The Great Loop! It was a perfect afternoon as we crossed the Savannah River and entered South Carolina:
Tonight we anchored in Bull Creek just south of Hilton Head Island -- and we had our first equipment failure: the anchor windlass decided to tear up. Actually, it was torn up already and we just discovered it. This baby tour boat was our first passerby. Lovely anchorage:
