It's been quite a while since our last update. Seems that the closer you get to the end of project like this, the tinier the daily progress.
The deck is nearing completion and is almost ready to receive the spa.
You'll also note that the carriage lights are installed on either side of the french doors.
Swinging a bit to to the right you can see the cutout where the spa will go. You can't just hang a spa onto the deck; filled with water it will be much too heavy for that. So a foundation has to be built to support the spa.
This is a day later. The large opening has been framed to fit the spa which is 7' by 7'6". Notice that the back corner of the deck has been trimmed to an angle; this is to match the gazebo (which is octagonal -- and not here yet).
On the inside, the biggest progress has been the finishing of all the hardwood floors. The floors have three coats of high gloss polyurethane. This is the entry hall (which is the pre-existing hardwood floor, freshly refinished).
If you look closely you'll see a plank from the door to the stairs. This is how we were able to get into and out of the house for the week while the floors were being refinished.
Here's the dining room floor. We think the floors turned out great.
The wall sconces are covered in plastic to protect them while the sanding/refninshing took place.
The kitchen floor looks particularly nice, we think.
And the expanse of the library completes the floor project.
I just found this picture I forgot to put up. Even though we've been living with this project for longer than it takes to create a new life, we haven't been forced to live without -- ice. This is our icemaker (now installed in the kitchen) from where it sat in the basement dutifully making ice and making exercise as Gael ran down stairs for ice.
