Shipping Crate |
There are, as you might expect, tons of details in preparing for an adventure like the Peter One DXpedition. Not the least among them is "How do we get all this gear to the island?!?"
Dick Hanson, K5AND, the owner of Southern Staircase, Inc. was kind enough to lend his engineering expertise and his shop to the project by designing roughly 3' x 3' x 3' wooden crates. This size was chosen as it would permit the crates to be stacked in two rows, two-crates-high in the container.
Dick's engineering staff created the drawings,
Eleven members of the SEDXC met at Dick's plant on a Saturday morning to build fourteen crates (Dick's team had already built one to test the process). It only took about three hours to build them all; the team signed the last one before trucking them to the Peter One Warehouse and then going to lunch at a nearby Arbys.
Thanks to the SEDXC for their support (both financial and sweat equity!) and most particularly to Dick Hanson; Southern Staircase is one of the key sponsors of the DXpedition.
