"Billy Le Grand" ( French for "Big Billy") is actually the name of one of their towns!

This sign sort of summed up our experience in trying to get into any champagne cellars.

We did finally reach one vintner where we could taste their champagne. After we knocked on the door, a woman approached from around the building and said, "Are you the ones who called ahead?" Well, no, we weren't, but we had at last lucked into a place where we could go in. Finally we learned from this kind woman that this is the off-season and no one is open for tours, etc. because in the processing of the grapes, this is the period where the fumes are actually quite toxic, so the champagne producers close up their showrooms for this time. Even so, it was a fun adventure and beautiful scenery and we all learned something!
After a nice stay another day or two with my niece Carrie and her husband Mike, we caught our flight back to Atlanta and arrived tired but really glad to be home. And there was a really happy kitty there to greet us. We hope you enjoyed this chronicle of our adventures and that you will stay in touch by dropping us a line. Click to send us an email.
