But first we spent a quick day (Friday, our unexpected layover) in Manhattan (NYC) walking 42nd Street and Times Square (boy have these changed since we were there last in the early 90s!! A clean and flashy part of the city instead of hookers and peep shows), followed by Chinatown and a delightful lunch at a sidewalk cafe in Little Italy, with food deliciously reminiscent of our previous trip to Italy. The subway ride was also an amazing departure from the earlier NY -- no graffiti anywhere and our car was full of mothers and babies in strollers -- it was a hoot to watch the babies of about five different ethnic backgrounds, smiling, pointing and giggling at each other.
People even got up to give away their seats to the mothers or the elderly -- hard to believe this was the same New York.
