We did some of the requisite Belgian things: we ate Mussels in Brussels (a big pot of them, steamed with garlic - delicious!) and visited the beautiful Grand Place. It is a large wide open square surrounded by elaborate baroque buildings from around 1700. Lunch at an outdoor café with typical Belgian beer allowed us to soak up the atmosphere for an extended while.
