The 2010 HOB Wine Tour

Everyone knows that Oregon is famous for outstanding Pinot Noir; we've had many enjoyable Oregon Pinots over the years.  So it only seems fitting that we take our merry band of wineauxs to Oregon this year.

Here are this year's happy participants:

        Bob and Mary Allphin
        Newsom and Beverly Baker
        Bill and Leah Barr
        Chaz and Gael Cone
Fred and (not Fran *) Gunter
        Dale and Allie Hunter (sometimes**)

(*) Fran had back surgery a few weeks earlier and her surgeon doesn't want her flying for hours, getting in and out of the van several times each; we'll miss her (:  (Who'll join all the wine clubs?!??)

(**) The Hunters worked out a way to join us for Friday and Saturday; YAY!

We've planned to time our arrival at Portland International Airport for mid-day on Tuesday, August 10th and our departure for mid-day on Sunday, August 15th.  This gives us one extra day on the tour to enjoy the many wineries in the area.  There were several good reasons to move the HOB Wine Tour to late summer this year; only hope we don't get withdrawal symptoms when our traditional May week slides by..

We've arranged for a pair of minivans and will be off driving an hour east to Phelps Creek Vineyards in Hood Creek OR.  The winery is owned by Bob Morus, a Delta captain and friend of our good friend Winston Whitlock.  We've tasted Bob's wines and they're terrific.  With luck, Bob may be able arrange his schedule to join us; and Winston may show up to surprise us (you never know...)

After the tasting and tour at Phelps Creek, we'll return to Portland for our kickoff dinner at the Portland City Grill.  The restaurant is 30 stories in the sky over downtown Portland.

After dinner, we'll drive 45 minutes south to our headquarters hotel, the Grand Hotel in Salem, OR.  Tasting begins in earnest on Wednesday morning.
