This was my day to introduce my granddaughters to geocaching. Heather is thirteen and Chelsea is nine; I thought they'd get a kick out of the activity -- I wasn't wrong!

I thought we'd start with a virtual cache that had education overtones. Part of that decision was based on a light rain that was falling. Our first find was "The Great Chase #1". On top of being a virtual cache, it was a multiple part question. We figured it out handily. You can read my log entry on the cache page (link above).

Rain had slackened so we headed for "3 Doe @ Kenworth Park". We figured out the route to the cache pretty easily but the thickness of the foliage made locking in the GPS receiver an iffy proposition. We think we figured out the right place but we searched for forty-five minute without finding it. Darn thing beat us.You can read my log entry on the cache page (link above).

And it didn't get better with #3 for the day. We searched for "Watch for flying objects..". This was a cool spot with a lot of open area so we were pretty sure we had the coordinates nailed -- but, again, we searched for a half-hour and didn't find it. I'm not looking to good to the granddaughters! You can read my log entry on the cache page (link above).

So we moved on to cache #4 for the day ("Allatoona Pass Battlefield"). This is one beautiful walk (though it's quite long) and several places along the trail we lost the satellites. But Heather persevered (while Chelsea and I tried to keep up!). I spotted the path off the trail and up the hill we went like mountain goats -- well, two mountain goats and one "old goat". Heather found it so at least the idea of a "real" geocache got across to the girls. You can read my log entry on the cache page (link above).

They said they had fun; we'll go again another day (and find those elusive ones that beat us today)!

Today brings my "found caches" count to TWENTY-FIVE.
