Chaz 'n Gael take Europe 2011

Sunday, September 18th - London to Athens, Greece

We had only about an hour before our British Airways flight to Athens so we again took advantage of their Club Lounge.  We set our clocks ahead five hours.  I remembered to turn "data roaming" off on both the iPhone and iPad; otherwise inadvertent BIG bills could ensue.

The layout of the 767 that took us from London to Athens was quite odd.  Our seats were in a three-seat row in the center of Club Europe (Business Class).  But the center seat, complete with reclining button, tray table and all was only about 10" wide; only a child of a year or less could possibly have fit.  I don't know what they were thinking; there were twenty rows of seats like this.  Odd.

Another five hours later we arrived in Athens where we were met outside Customs/Baggage Claim by a representative of Regent Seven Seas.

We set our clocks ahead another two hours.  There were a dozen of us arriving at about the same time, so we were taken by bus to the three hotels that cruise guests could have chosen.  Hotel Grand Bretagne was the first stop and we and a pair of sisters were dropped off there.  Check-in to room 382 was a breeze; this is a lovely hotel that reminded us of The Plaza in NYC.

We had dinner reservations at the rooftop restaurant at the hotel.  What a marvelous layout with a 180 ° view of Athens from the the Lysicrates monument:

.. to the Acropolis:

Ambiance, service and food were all excellent.

We retired to our room where I wrote today's blog.

Tomorrow we have a four-hour tour of Athens so we have to be up and running at 8am.  After the tour, we have to be aboard our ship by 6:15p.

More tomorrow!
