Esmeralda Rally I -- Spring, 1969 The Esmeralda Inn was just right for us.  We invited eleven other couples and laid out the course for the First Esmeralda Rally to be held on Saturday, June 7, 1969.  The starting line was in Greenville, SC and the rally was set to run for three hours and ten minutes.  The fee was $20.00 per couple and covered the room, dinner, breakfast and movie rental.  Click here to see the instructions for Esmeralda Rally I. The plan was to rally to the Esmeralda, have beer and snacks, dinner and watch a 16mm movie (this was years and years before videotape). No, not that kind of movie!  The movie was King Kong.  We had a blast.  The winners were Ray and B.A. Cobb.  They won a trophy cup (to keep) and had their names engraved on the Esmeralda Cup: Back to the Esmeralda Rally...
