Our Caravan to
Vettes On The Rockies (VOTR) 2006
Day 15: Saturday, July 29, 2006
Breckenridge, Colorado
Today the VOTR event was a "FUNKANA", an gymkhana/autocross event run with cones on a parking lot. Since my depth perception re cones is poor (no jokes, please), we opted out. Buzz and Jackie and Ron and Robin took a pass on the FUNKANA as well.
But they went to breakfast with Lauren and Jim (Jackie's sister and brother-in-law who you met when we were in Colorado Springs) and Ron and Robin:
I chose to go to the hotel garage for what I hope to be the last detailing job of this trip. It was cool, and indoors; it only took me about two hours. Just as I came back upstairs, Buzz called and we shuttled into town to meet with the Nielsens and Lauren and Jim for lunch (well, drinks on their part as they'd just come from breakfast). We chose Mi Casa, another Mexican restaurant here in the 'Ridge:
Yes, they'd all just come from breakfast but, hey, its 5:00p somewhere:
After lunch we split up and Gael and I walked through the sidewalk art exhibit that apparently takes place every weekend. There were about two-dozen stalls with lovely paintings, pottery, sculpture, clothing and objects d'art. It was set up right beside the river that flows through Breckenridge:
Gael found a sculpture she had to have, thus giving the artist, Beth Turner of Kearney, Nebraska, her first collector in Georgia:
It's called "The High Priestess"; sounds like a fit for Gael to me...
We called for the shuttle and headed back to the condo until cocktails tonight.
Buzz and Jackie did go to observe the FUNKANA:
No, I have no idea what's going on here!
At 5:15p we were joined in our condo by Buzz and Jackie, Ron and Robin, Lauren and Jim and Dennis and Leslie for drinks and snacks. After a fun hour (no pix, that's how much fun it must have been) we all caravanned over to the 1953 CE Reunion dinner at Swan Mountain Inn. Here's the group awaiting the shuttle down to Beaver Run:
This dinner was arranged by Mo Waller (she and her husband Rich own CE #8):
Most of the CEs in town were there:
After a nice dinner we all drove back to Beaver Run for the dessert event and to hear who won the Rally and the FUNKANA. The room was packed (as in the last two evenings):
Before the awards, there was a presentation by Kirk Bennion and Harland Charles of GM Corvette:
That's Harlan Charles on the left, Kirk Bennion on the right.
..on the development of the C6 and how it's doing in the market place (Synopsis: very well!):
Then Buzz, as Chairman of the NCM Foundation, said a few words about the NCM:
Our group didn't win nuthin' (again); we're meeting at 7:00a to caravan to Frisco so all the CEs will be parked together so I'm turning in. Tomorrow, the "Show and Shine" as Corvette takes over Main Street in Frisco, Colorado!
