Our Caravan to
Vettes On The Rockies (VOTR) 2006
Day 12: Wednesday, July 26, 2006
Breckenridge, Colorado
Hot Sulphur Springs, Colorado
Today was the day we decided to spend the morning detailing the car. Hose at the ready and plenty of time. While I was doing that, Jackie was preparing to leave in the morning. After making her sparkle,
.. Jackie and I decided to head to Hot Sulfur Springs; we heard there was a resort and spa there, so we were off. It was a beautiful sunny day. The scenes remain breathtaking.
We found our way to the resort; hmm.. should have brought the bathing suits, as they allow you to use the pools for an hour or two. You do not have to be a guest:
Our thinking was that since this was a resort, maybe they would have a restaurant. Wrong. So we were off to find some food; we thought this little road side place called Dairy Delight looked interesting, so we pulled in. Great cheeseburgers and onion rings:
As we were sitting there, we noticed this quaint little museum across the street. We thought we'd investigate and get educated:
Upon arriving at the entrance we found the door locked, lights on, and a sign stating hours of 10 AM to 5PM. Also, there was a small sign: "Be back at 1:40PM". It was 2:30PM, so Jackie just figured someone forgot to unlock the door, and she proceeded to knock. A man came out, I will not call him a gentleman, and proceeded to say they were closed and pointed to the "be right back" sign. She pointed out that it was well past the time, and he, speaking with a full mouth, said it's wrong and he won't be open for at least another twenty minutes. There really isn't anything else to do in this small town, so we left. What a shame. I did take a few pictures of the outbuildings:
We both would have really liked to see them up close. Guess they don't need the revenue!
So it was back to Winter Park, but not without some excitement. We watched as the sky to our East started to turn black. Now we were just hoping to make it back before it rained (remember, Buzz had just detailed the car) but you guessed it, the rain came in, first in huge drops, then turning to small pellet-size hail and then to hail about the size of nickels. It was very interesting. It was amazing to see the road turn white and feel the temperature drop about thirty degrees in a matter of several minutes:
Alas, the car was once more really dirty.
Upon arriving back in Winter Park, the temperature had once again climbed and the sun was shining. So, yes, it was "let's wash the car" once more. Of course just as we were drying it, drops once again began to fall. This time at least we had a garage to put it in.
After drying the Vette and putting it into the garage, it was time to just chill. When we talked about dinner, Jackie remembered the tiramisu we had the day before, while we were waiting for Chaz and Gael, so it was off to Deno's Mountain Bistro:
We had a good dinner and did save room for dessert. Off to the house to get packed for the trip to Breckenridge for the weekend.
