Don & Betsy Slauson's 1984 Corvette

(Alternate Participant)

I was ten years old in 1953 when the Corvette was introduced. I remember having a cardboard cutout of the '53 from a box of cereal. I fell in love with the car three years later when my brother had a party at our house and a buddy of his drove up in a new 1956 'Vette, black on red. I pestered him for a ride until he finally relented. He accelerated us to 100 MPH and I know then I had to have one. After raising four wonderful kids, I purchased this '84 in Janaury of 1996. Forty years had passed since that ride in the '56!

I have done most of the mechanical repairs myself including the repair fo the digital dash. The car received new paint in February 1999 and seven months later we drove it to Bowling Green for the National Corvette Caravan on Labor Day. The best thing about this car is being a member of the Orange County Vettes in Southern California. These folks have become some of our closest friends and, in 2000, I was elected president of the club (the icing on the cake).

Betsy and I are looking forward to have an opporutnity to drive in this historical event.
