Rand Shinn's 1998 Corvette

(Primary Participant)

Dealers couldn't enter orders with the magnesium wheel option when I put the deposit down on my 1998 Black/Gray 6-speed Coupe in July of 1997, and active handling wasn't even available to order then, but it has everything else. After enduring delays due to constraints on 6-speeds and sport seats (and almost deciding to start over when I found out that active handling would go into production in December of 1997), my C5 was built on November 6th and I was able to take delivery when it reached the dealer on November 17th. Since then, it has acquired Corsa's Pace Car Edition exhaust and X-pipe, RM Racing's Twin Flo air intake, Mallett sway bars, Lloyd mats, embroidered luggage shade and BBS wheels.

The Historic Motorama has a very special starting point for me because like the Corvette, I was born in Flint in 1953! My first Corvette, a 1976, was purchased new from a dealer in Flushing. I lived in the Flint area until late 1990, managing somehow to survive things like school, job changes, some fast cars, marriage and divorce along the way. I did go a bit astray and graduated from The University of Michigan, but my father and uncle are both graduates of GMI (now Kettering University) which is located not too far from where the original Corvettes were built. I hope that if schedules permit, some good friends still in the area (perhaps even one now-married old flame!) will be able to see us off on our journey.
