Judi & George Manning's 1996 Corvette

(Primary Participant)

My love affair with the Corvette began at an early age and was heightened when my husband and I acquired our first Vette, a Silver 1976 L-48 in 1977. The Silver "Brilliance", the racy lines, cool exhaust note and firm ride all added up to some exciting cruzin'. Later, a beautiful Silver 1985 coupe found a home in our garage. What a joy!! As you can tell, Silver is one of our favorite colors. However, GM quit making Silver C4s from 1989 through 1995 so we settled for other beautiful colors. When the 1996 Collector Edition hit the showrooms we were first in line, drooling over those incredible machines. I was driving a 1994 Admiral Blue convertible at the time. Before the day was over I bid farewell to the convertible and began what I hoped would be a long-term relationship with the CE coupe.

The odometer registered a mere four miles when we slipped the new car tags onto its rear. It has been wonderful. The Sebring Silver color is exactly what we had wanted. The ZR1-style wheels are the best ever. The standard LT1 engine is so much fun, the power, the versatility. I have even tried my hand at drag racing. Quite a thrill! We have driven our dream to the Black Hills, Carlisle, Bowling Green and in most of the western states. Even a week in Florida was more fun in the "Silver Streak".

We have two ZR1s that we cherish, but always seem to put more miles on the '96.

We have been members of the National Corvette Museum for over ten years now and presently enjoy the many benefits that Lifetime Membership brings. We were there at the Grand Opening, there celebrating the last ZR1 and have visited many other times. Bringing our children and their families to the NCM has been a joy for all of us. To see our son enjoying Corvettes and being a member of the NCM makes us glad that we can be involved in good family activities.
