Scott Kohn's 1958 Corvette

(Alternate Participant)

I am excited to be an alternate in this historic event!

My 1958 Corvette is a 245 HP, dual-four with an automatic transmission and has a blue soft top. The car has a history relating to the start of Corvette Central. The car was purchase by Jerry Kohn, my father, in about 1973. The car was just a driver, somewhat modified, it had been painted dark brown and the original blue interior had been dyed black. The car needed grille teeth, which were unavailable from the GM dealer. Jerry owned a die-casting company with his family and decided to tool and manufacture the grille teeth himself. The grille teeth samples were taken to a NCRS show in late 1975 and there Jerry found many other owners needing the grille teeth also. The rest, as they say, is history.

Jerry gave the car to me when I turned 16, at which time I started to disassemble and do a total restoration on it. It was a long slow process and was completed, as you see it today, in 1993. I have won NCRS Flight awards and Gold Spinner awards with this car. The car is driven in the summers only and has appeared on the cover of our catalog in the spring of 2000.
