The First Historic Motorama

About the Historic Motorama

During the week of June 24, 2002, as the kickoff to the year-long celebration of Corvette's 50th Anniversary, the National Corvette Museum (NCM) presented a Historic Motorama of Corvettes. The NCM Historic Motorama consisted of one Corvette from each production year, 1953-2002.

The Motorama began at Corvette's birthplace in Flint Michigan, and rolled on to its current home in Bowling Green Kentucky.  Scheduled stops included the GM Design Center in Detroit (where Harley Earl and his design staff sculptured the concept car that became the Corvette) as well as St. Louis where the car was produced from the end of 1953 to 1981.  On June 28th the Motorama rolled through the Bowling Green Corvette Assembly Plant -- and then the final mile to its ultimate destination - the National Corvette Museum.  The Motorama's arrival signaled the beginning of the Museum's three-day Corvette celebration.

This once-in-a-lifetime event (well, twice-in-a-lifetime; the NCM did another Historic Motorama in 2008) was created by the National Corvette Museum by virtue of a drawing held among entries from members of the NCM.  Two participants were selected for each model year (a Primary and Alternate).
