The 1965 Corvette chosen has been in our family since 1978. My Dad previously had a 1976 model that he sold that spring in order to buy a new Pace Car, which we still have with only 1300 miles. Due to the wild speculation of Pace Car values at the time, the new Corvette was stored away. That summer my Dad had the bug badly for a Corvette to drive. Thus the purchase of the '65, cheap due to a messed up engine.
The never-hit '65 is repainted the original Nassau Blue. The interior is bright blue vinyl, having had only the seat covers and carpeting replaced. It still has the original 396-425 engine that was rebuilt some years ago. Present actual mileage is slightly over 70,000 miles. The car has never been "restored", having only been repaired as needed. Other factory equipment include radio, tilt and telescopic steering column, teakwood wheel, HD suspension, and side mounted exhaust. The Knock-off wheels are reproduction. "Old Blue" (as we call it) has been used sparingly as a fun driver for the last 23 years. It has been on the dragstrip to the tune of 12.7 @ 106 mph, "thru the mufflers', with only the addition of a pair of 8-inch slicks. In spite of all this, it has earned a 2nd Flite NCRS award a few years back. This old coupe is a "Kick".
I am really looking forward to the possibility of participating in the Motorama. Hopefully we will have the opportunity.
