Monterey del Oro -- August, 2002

We decided to go to this event because friend Ronnie Munro was in (partial) charge of it and we knew it would be good. Monterey del Oro is a one-time event connected with the Monterey automobile events traditionally held in August each year. The events connected with MDO are the Concorso Italiano and the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. I reasoned that the only car show in the world where Gael would fit in -- would be Pebble Beach.

Turns out that friends Dennis and Leslie Stepanik from San Antonio..

.. (we met them in June on the Historic Motorama) and long-time friends Buzz & Jackie Nielsen from Tampa..

    Jackie and Buzz Nielsen

.. would be going as well.

Buzz and I arranged with Ronnie to "borrow" a pair of Corvettes for the week; we made a contribution to the MDO charities and Ronnie agreed to provide her 2000 Torch C5 FRC..

.. and Skip Frenzel (who is the principal organizer) agreed to provide Gael and me with his rare Turquoise Metallic '91 ZR1..

    KEWL!

It was at this event that I spied the first 53-03 Commemorative Edition Corvette and got both Buzz and me hooked on getting one. Click HERE for that story.

I was unable to do my usual excellent :) job of photojournalism for this event as Gael had a mishap on Tuesday and we had to come home w/o doing most of the things we came for. But Buzz & Jackie did do a page and you can see "the rest of the story" by clicking HERE.

    Enjoy!
