You don't embark on a 2000+ mile road adventure without doing some research. Here are some of the things we used:
This is a DVD with Martin Milner (who starred in the 1960-64 TV Series "route 66") taking us the length of Route 66. He narrates some of it (and he drives a very nice red/white 1959 Corvette but we sensed he wasn't really there when the various characters were interviewed. Slooooooow pacing -- and at least ten years out of date.
This 3-disk DVD set includes the Milner one (above) and other good info. If you have this one, you won't need the one above as it's included.
This is the publication we used most heavily in our planning. This great book has the turn-by-turn directions East-to-West (as we used) and, if you flip it over, West-to-East as shown above.
This one is compact (large pocket-size) and full of good stuff.
This is a complete set of fold-out maps, one per state, in large scale. Pocket-size format as above.
This one is thought by many to be the "one book you have to have if you have only one":
The above are just examples; click HERE for links to TONS of Route 66 publications.
